Past, Present, and Future: It’s All About Love

 

Sponsored by: Cornerstone Center for the Arts, First Merchants Bank, WMDH, Kizer’s Carpet Care, WLBC, The Muncie Times, The Star Press, Cintas, Indiana Public Radio, Indiana Arts Commission, and Pepsi Americas.  All Proceeds benefit Cornerstone Center for the Arts as we continue our mission of “Creating Community Connections” through the celebration of the Arts in East Central Indiana.

 

In Recognition of Black History Month Cornerstone Center for the Arts will be hosting a weekend of activities to bring the community together for a time of celebration of Black History through the decades starting with the Harlem Renaissance era through the present and remembering that our children are our future.  Events that will take place February 9th, 10th, and 11th  are:

 

Friday, February 9th – 8pm – 12am:  

Cornerstone Block Party – Dance to music throughout the decades with DJ Marcus Clancy from 106.7 WTLC.  This evening’s event will take place in Cornerstone’s Colonnade Room. Admission is $6 per person or $10 per Couple. Adults 21 & over.  There will be a cash bar available.

 

Saturday, February 10th - 6pm – 8pm (Doors Open at 5:30pm):

SOUL-FUL Extravaganza – Come join us as we showcase local talent from the Community.  Confirmed participants include: Beth Leavell-Davis, Clarence Motley, Dee Harris and many more. Food & Refreshments will be available for purchase from local vendors.

This evening’s event will take place in Cornerstone’s Colonnade Room.  Admission is $6 per person and $3 for Children ages 12 & under.

 

Sunday, February 11th – 2pm – 6pm – FREE ADMISSION:

Community Bazaar, “Reel Moments” & The Freedom Bus – Come see what’s available from local vendors, take a tour through the New Freedom Bus a civil rights exhibition presented by MLK Dreamteam and then stick around for movies for the entire family in the Edmund Burke Ball Auditorium.  Popcorn, Hot Dogs and other refreshments will be available for purchase during the day.  Movies that will be shown are:

 

 2pm: Cabin in the SkyEddie Anderson, Lena Horne, Ethel Waters Turner/MGM; Directed by Vincente Minnelli Black and White; Not Rated; 100 minutes; 1943 Based on the Broadway hit musical, some of the finest entertainers of their time including Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Lena Horne make up the all-black cast in CABIN IN THE SKY. Wonderful songs include "Life's Full O' Consequences" and "Happiness is a Thing Called Joe."

 

4pm: The Gospel - Clifton Powell, Yolanda Adams, Dwayne Boyd, Idris Elba Columbia Tristar Pictures; Directed by Rob Hardy Rated PG; 105 minutes; 2005 David, turned his back on his father and his church after a childhood tragedy, but is forced to return to his roots when his father dies and leaves the pulpit to his childhood nemesis. The place of the church as a stabilizing force, forum for conflict and arena for enterprise are explored in this uplifting drama featuring amazing gospel music from Yolanda Adams and American Idol’s Tamyra Gray.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts has completed its second year with its new name! In these past two years, we have been able to provide opportunities for creative expression, artistic development, and special events in our beautiful, historic building.
