401(k)ids Showcase: In Review

For the first time, students who received 401(k)ids Arts Scholarships gathered together for a showcase performance of what they've been doing this year!

The 401(k)ids Arts Scholarship Program is supported by the community and allows students in grades 4-12 to participate in the area of the arts of their choice. They are enrolled in classes throughout the Muncie area, including Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

The showcase on Monday, May 7th, in Cornerstone's Edmund Burke Ball Auditorium brought together more than 20 of the 401(k)ids. They danced, sang, played musical instruments, and did martial arts demonstrations. Family and friends in the audience were able to to see the diversity of the students and their exploration of the arts.

Now that the 2006-2007 school year has come to an end, applications for the 2007-2008 school year are being reviewed, and interviews will be scheduled soon.

Artists Reaching Kids

One of Cornerstone's programs has already had a number of events this season. Artists Reaching Kids (ARK) matches talented, caring teachers with kids who need the arts. Organizations, schools, and other groups can join in to be a part of ARK, giving kids the opportunity to experience the arts.

In May, several groups met at Cornerstone for ARK events. Boy Scouts Troop 9 of Selma completed a merit badge under the instruction of ceramics teacher Jasen Combs. CAPE (Community Alliance to Promote Education) brought in students from Longfellow and Washington-Carver Elementary Schools to participate in dance and art workshops.

If you want to be involved with ARK or would like more information, contact Robby Tompkins, Director of Education. rtompkins@cornerstonearts.org or 765.281.9503, ext. 23.
