Registration for Summer Classes Continues

The Cornerstone Arts Program's 8 week summer sessions have begun!  The 8 week session, which started June 8th and runs through July 30th, offers classes for youth and adults in numerous areas of the arts.  Some classes still have registration available for a limited time, so don't miss out on this opportunity to develop your skills and talents this summer!

Registration is available for the six week summer session, which begin June 22.  These classes are offered this summer by Katie Cannon, an award-winning dancer who has danced professionally.  Cannon will be offering youth and adult classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Progressions and Technique, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Cardio Dance Movement, and Pilates.  Yoga is also offered as a six week class.

In addition, the Cornerstone Arts Program offers private instruction for all ages in the following areas: Drums, Guitar, Piano, Voice, Strings, Trumpet and Saxophone.  These classes generally meet a half hour each week, and offer one-on-one interaction between student and teacher.  Registration for private instruction is available year-round.

There is still time to sign up for all of these exciting classes!  Click here to register online, or pick up a registration form from the 2nd floor lobby at 520 E. Main Street.  Payment plans and financial aid are available.  Call 281-9503, ext. 15 for any additional questions.

The third annual Harvest Moon Film Festival will take place November 12-14, 2009 in Downtown Muncie and is now accepting entries.  The Harvest Moon Film Festival awards prizes in the areas of feature length, short film, documentary, and student film.  The top film receives a $3,000 grand prize, and selected filmmakers will be spotlighted throughout the weekend.

Accepted films will be announced in September, and will be shown during the festival.  Films can be submitted online at the Harvest Moon Film Festival's website through Withoutabox, an Amazon affiliate, or through a paper submission form.  Click here for submission guidelines, fees and additional information.

Gallery Exhibit

Cornerstone's current artist on display is Ian Kee.  Kee is a graduate of Taylor University with a degree in Visual Arts who specializes in photography.  His show "Reincarnate" allows him to explore complete strangers in their natural environment and elements.  Kee found his photo subjects simply by knocking on their front doors.

Kee believes that meeting new people and discovering their lives in their own environment is a powerful way to broaden a person's view of humanity.  Kee has additional artwork and contact information available at his website.  The Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Annual Cornerstone Carnival

Join Cornerstone as we celebrate our summer classes!  The third annual Cornerstone Carnival will be held August 2.  All classes and lessons will be showcased through performances, visual arts exhibits, multimedia, and a private lessons recital.

The event is open to the community, so be sure to invite your friends, family and neighbors!  The Carnival will include games for children of all ages, prizes, crafts, free classes, performances, refreshments, and much more!  Cornerstone Carnival has something fun and exciting for every member of your family.

Cornerstone needs volunteers for this fun event, so if you or someone you know would be interested in helping with games or crafts, call the Education Office at 281-9503, ext 15.
