New Six Week Classes and Workshops

Cornerstone Center for the Arts will be offering several popular dance, visual art, and language classes in a six week session beginning the week of March 9th, with the majority of classes costing $40.The six week session offers many classes for artists of all ages.

Cornerstone will be offering the following six week courses for youth:

  • Early art class for 1-3 year-olds and 4-6 year-olds
  • Youth art for 1st-5th graders
  • Art exploration class for middle school students
  • Youth hip-hop class
  • Youth tap dance
  • Youth creative writing class
  • Early sign language for four to six year olds
  • Youth sign language elementary and middle school age students.

Cornerstone will offer the following six week courses for 9th grade-adult:

  • Digital photography
  • Fiber art
  • Sign language
  • Line dancing

Cornerstone also offers private lessons that can begin at anytime for singles or couples in ballroom dancing, swing dancing, and line dancing. There are also private music lessons for all ages in clarinet, drums, guitar, piano, saxophone, strings, trumpet, and voice.

Cornerstone will also be offering visual arts workshops for individuals and for families. The first workshops will be March 14th from 2-4:00pm and will include two options:

  • Family Albums 
  • Garden Ornaments

The second workshop date is April 4th and will also include two options:

  • Kite Making
  • Greeting Cards

Workshops are $15 per person or per craft item and participants will be able to create a craft item and take it home with them during these fun one time workshops.

Dancing Stars 2009

Hustle on down to Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Friday March 6th for “Dancing Stars 2009,” a disco themed performance for the whole family. Cornerstone will host the annual Choose Your Move performance at 7 p.m. in the E.B. Ball Auditorium. Tickets are $10 per person.

“Dancing Stars 2009” will feature performances by local “celebrity” dancers performing to disco. Performers include: Monique Armstrong, Dave Bradway, Nance Buchert, Pat & Marilyn Cleary, Shayne and Jennifer Dudley, Steve Fennimore, Dave Franklin, Claire Heineman, Fred & Julie Herron, Amanda Hicks, Milly Isaacs, Beth Leavell, John and Kaila Lennartz, Arttacgo Luckett, Chris Mahon, Kathie Nix, Fred Reese, Kathy & Jeff Rapkin, Scott & Tara Smalstig, Julie Terhune, Kent and Janis Thomas, and Jonathon and Anarene Yim. A special thanks goes to WERK, CS Kern, the Indiana Arts Commission, Indiana Public Radio, and WLBC.

Cornerstone Welcomes Two New Resident Organizations

Cornerstone Center for the Arts is excited to welcome two new resident organizations, Ancient Arts Dance Studio and Beyond Dance Studio, to our facility. 

Beyond Dance is a local all ages dance studio which offers classes in a wide variety of dance styles including tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and more. Beyond Dance Studio also participates in state and regional dance competitions.

Ancient Arts Dance Troupe is a local belly dance troupe which performs at many community festivals and events.

2009 Art Show Submissions

Start preparing for this year’s annual Cornerstone Art Show. The show takes place April 14th from 5:00-8:00pm. You can submit your 2-D, 3-D, and video art during submission week, March 30th-April 3rd, from 1:00-6:00pm.

Age categories include; K-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th, and Adult. Cash and prizes will be awarded.

All work must be submitted to Cornerstone Center for the Arts at 520 E. Main St. in Muncie. Entry forms can be found at Cornerstone or online at www.cornerstonearts.org. For more information call 765.281.9503, ext. 15.
