JASEN C.

CERAMICS | he/him

Jasen received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Ball State University in 1996 and went on to receive his Masters of Arts in Ceramics in 2001. Jasen creates wheel thrown utilitarian stoneware pottery along with abstract hand built pieces. His teaching philosophy is to let the students experience the clay with all their senses. He wants them to touch, feel, and make the clay move. Jasen loves it when students have no previous experience with clay and he can watch how they develop and grow in the class. The smile and joy on their faces as they create with their hands is rewarding. Jasen has been teaching pottery classes at Cornerstone Center for the Arts for 16 years.

EUGENE B.

CERAMICS | he/him

After he retired in 2009, Eugene planned to realize his lifelong dream of opening a wood shop. Until he took a ceramics class at Cornerstone. His instructor was Jason Combs. Eugene fell in love with clay! He discovered a passion for clay he never knew I had, and he forgot all about the wood shop! At Jason’s suggestion, Eugene met others in the ceramics world and studied with John Peterson, a legendary local potter. He began using the Artist Within (Made in Muncie) studio, to get more wheel time and soon became an instructor at Cornerstone. Eugene said “It warms my heart to see others get as excited about ceramics as I do.” In 2016, the house next door to Eugene became available, allowing his to open his very own studio, Boyd’s Pottery.
